Consolidating your context doesn't create the risk — it takes custody of a risk you already had

Tan's answer to the leak objection: the default is not privacy but a life already scattered across ten clouds whose incentives are not yours, searchable by everyone except you

Tan gives the third objection the most respect: you put your entire life into one system — email, meetings, your kids’ schedules — and what happens when it leaks? His answer is that concentration is exactly the argument for ownership rather than against it. His own brain runs on his own infrastructure, in his own repo, under his own keys. The comparison he insists on is not against a hypothetical secure alternative but against the actual default, which “is not privacy”: a life already scattered across ten clouds owned by companies whose incentives are not yours, searchable by everyone except you.

The reframe worth keeping is the last move: “I didn’t create the risk by consolidating my context. I took custody of it. Custody is the security model.” And the closing challenge is aimed at the obvious retort — if you don’t trust yourself to hold the keys, the answer is not trusting someone else’s terms of service more. This is the security argument for Personal AGI is an asset you build, not a subscription you rent, and it should be read against Permissioned inference is harder than permissioned retrieval — enterprise context graphs need reasoning-level access control, which is the reason custody is harder than it sounds once an agent reasons over everything at once rather than fetching one document at a time. Worth flagging as interpretation rather than Tan’s claim: custody transfers the failure mode rather than removing it — a single owned repo concentrates blast radius even as it removes the vendor, and the transcript does not work through what happens when the individual is the one who gets breached.
